“Taking care of your mental health is the best thing you can do for yourself and those around you.” -Fatima Saeed

Why Prioritizing Your Mental Health is So Very Important…
  1. Embodied Wellness: Prioritizing mental health is a holistic investment in your overall well-being, impacting not just emotional landscapes but also physical health, reducing risks of chronic diseases.

  2. Life Alchemy: Mental wellness transforms life from mere existence to a journey of meaningful connections, personal growth, and the pursuit of transformative goals and passions.

  3. Cultivating Capacity and Relational Harmony: Good mental health elevates your functional capacity in professional and personal spheres while serving as the cornerstone for building empathetic and supportive relationships.

A Couple of Concepts:

Some core ‘priorities’ in our work together…

Defining Mental Illness:

Mental illness embodies a spectrum of conditions that disrupt one's emotional, cognitive, and behavioral equilibrium. These conditions create tangible shifts in thought patterns, emotional states, and behaviors, often leading to distress and hindering day-to-day functionality. In essence, mental illness is a health condition that destabilizes one's internal landscape—impacting thinking, emotions, and actions—while also affecting relational dynamics and general life quality.

Common Mental Illnesses:

Examples of prevalent mental illnesses include depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and PTSD. The manifestations of these conditions can range in severity, duration, and symptomatology. It's crucial to acknowledge that individuals may experience overlapping symptoms or even multiple disorders concurrently. Early diagnosis and suitable intervention serve as vital steps towards enhancing an individual's holistic well-being and life experience.

The Dance of Serotonin

Serotonin, often dubbed the "feel-good" neurotransmitter, serves as both a chemical messenger and a hormone. It functions as the whisperer between the nerve cells in your brain and the rest of your body, guiding various bodily functions and influencing your emotional state.

Roles and Locations:

Serotonin is a multi-faceted contributor to your well-being, influencing not only your emotional highs and lows but also orchestrating your learning processes, memory, and even core bodily functions like sleep, appetite, and sexual drive. While its deficiency is often linked to emotional imbalances such as depression and anxiety, it's intriguing to note that the vast majority—around 90%—of your body's serotonin resides in your gut, not your brain. This serves as a poignant reminder of the interconnectedness of our emotional and physical selves.

The Source:

Created from the essential amino acid tryptophan—which must be ingested since our bodies can't produce it—serotonin is another testament to the intricate link between what we consume and how we feel emotionally and physically.
